Thousands of people are arrested every year in Indiana and charged with a DUI or OWI. This can have a serious impact on your life. DUI charges can lead to fines, jail time, and loss of your driver’s license. Because of this potential impact, you need to have a lawyer who knows how to fight DUI charges that can help you through the process.
Indiana DUI Law
In Indiana, it is against the law to operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. If you are caught driving with a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) of .08% or higher, you can be arrested for a DUI. If your BAC is over .15%, the punishment may be more severe.
If a police officer suspects you are driving under the influence, he or she will likely ask you to take a blood, urine, or breath test to determine BAC. While you have the right to refuse to take the test, refusing will result in your license being immediately suspended for at least 1 year. If this is not your first offense, the punishment will be more severe.
